Rev. Dr. Charles H. Jones, Jr. serves as the area director for Europe, the Middle East, and Liberia with the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society (a.k.a. International Ministries of American Baptist Churches, USA). He was recently promoted to Senior Area Director. He has served in several other capacities with International Ministries since 1997 when he joined the staff as an administrative assistant in the Overseas Division.
In his role as area director, Rev. Dr. Jones is responsible for exploring, starting, and strengthening relationships with national partner bodies and organizations; for supporting and supervising global servants (missionaries); and for facilitating the involvement of American Baptists – individuals, national and regional organizations and/or churches – in God’s global mission.
Rev. Dr. Jones travels extensively throughout and within Europe, the Middle East, and Liberia – from Armenia to Ukraine; from Estonia to Turkey; from Edina to Worhn Town – consulting with partners and friends, preaching, teaching, encouraging, and generally affirming and seeking to enhance their ministries and impact.

Rev. Dr. Jones is committed to Kingdom ministry as encapsulated in the International Ministries purpose statement: “International Ministries, also known as the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society, works cross-culturally to invite people to become disciples of Jesus Christ and to proclaim, through both word and deed, God’s reign of justice, peace and abundant life for all creation.”

Rev. Dr. Jones is a native of Liberia, in West Africa. Prior to coming to the U.S. (in 1988), he served as Registrar/Secretary at Ricks Institute, his Alma Mater (1982-1986); and last served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Oldest Congo Town (1985-1988) and director of evangelism for the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (1987-1988).
He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in October 1980 at the First Baptist Church, Oldest Congo Town, Liberia, West Africa.
Rev. Dr. Jones holds the Bachelor of Theology degree from the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary (1981); the Master of Divinity degree from the (now Samuel DeWitt Proctor) School of Theology of Virginia Union University, Richmond, Va. (1990); and the Master of Arts degree in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now Union Presbyterian Seminary), Richmond, Va. (1992). He was awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree from the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary in 2016.
Charles and his wife, Maima, have five children. They are members of the Siloam Baptist Church in Norristown, PA.; and currently assist with ministry at the Eternal Life Missionary Baptist Church in Southwest Philadelphia, PA.
